Coastal Areas
Experience the tranquillity of the Mozambique coastline….
Mozambique is an exceptionally beautiful country with coconut palm beaches; exquisite coral reefs and interesting towns entrenched in history and culture.
On the north coast of Mozambique, at the mouth of a huge bay (the 3rd largest in the world), is the town of Pemba. Pemba is the gateway to the magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago. The old town known as Baixa has some interesting buildings and a pleasant atmosphere. At the boat yard around the corner from the harbour one can watch the mahogany boats being built.
Inhambane city is situated on a peninsula on Mozambique's south-central coast and is one of Mozambique's most fascinating tourist destinations. The Portuguese established a permanent settlement and trading post at Inhambane in 1534, making it one of the oldest settlements in Southern Africa. The town consists of a fascinating mix of African, old-world Portuguese and Muslim cultures. The city boasts impressive architecture and an extremely interesting museum. Mangrove swamps flank the water along the edge of the peninsula, resulting in the region being a birder's paradise. |
