Bluebay Beach Resort is situated on one of the finest, wide, white, sandy beaches on the island of Zanzibar, nestled amidst more than 1000 exotic palms.
Bluebay Beach Resort offers 88 sea-facing rooms. The Bungalows are thatched with Makuti palms to blend in with the tropical environment. Although the rooms are positioned some distance from the beach on the green lawns, some have cracks of a sea view through the lush palm trees.
All rooms are tastefully decorated using reproductions of Zanzibari furniture and a cool, white-and-blue colour scheme reflects the dazzling sand and azure ocean. The rooms have four-poster beds with mosquito nets, a writing bureau, coffee table and easy chairs, dressing room, en-suite bathroom and either a veranda or balcony. Each room is well fitted with an air conditioner, ceiling fan, satellite television, mini-bar, hairdryer and telephone.
The Garden rooms are set in the gardens and are the smallest rooms.
The Superior Rooms are found in two-storey blocks (housing four rooms each), while others are single storey with 2 rooms and in the lush, tropical gardens.
The Suite Rooms (deluxe rooms) are slightly closer to the beach and have a larger lounge and veranda area on ground level.
If you are after the ultimate in luxury and can afford the extra premium, book one of the Sultan Rooms. These spacious rooms are situated closest to the beach and feature enormous 8-foot beds and verandas with sun beds and a Zanzibari lounging sofa. Here butlers dressed in elegant, traditional Swahili robes will attend you.

Relaxed atmosphere, lush tropical gardens, the finest white beach sand one could imagine, intimate swimming pools, massages, and the magnificent cuisines specializing in fresh seafood make Matemwe the ultimate tropical paradise on the intriguing island of Zanzibar.
All the rooms, as well as the restaurant are directly overlooking the Indian Ocean. You can enjoy the comings and goings of the local ngalawa fishing fleet from the comfort of your veranda, from the poolside relaxation area or from the restaurant. Matemwe Bungalows is tucked between two perfect, white-sanded beaches, inviting you to relax and unwind.
The main lodge consists of 12 suites stretching up the rocky coast, screened from their neighbours by palm and pine trees. Each bungalow has a private path to it, a thatched roof, and a private terrace with hammock and view to the Indian Ocean. The rooms are simple, organic and gorgeous: white walls, dark wooden doors, thatched ceilings and natural furniture. The blue-draped beds have mosquito nets and the glassless windows have ingenious louvers so you can switch the sea-views and the ocean roar on or off. These are proper suites with an indoor sitting area and the bathrooms are huge with a huge sunken tub at one end and a table and chairs at the other.
Whilst the turquoise sea calls for you, 2 intimate swimming pools are available to refresh guests during the sunny Zanzibar days. Besides the rooms, the restaurant and the various lounge areas overlook the Indian Ocean and the fresh sea breeze ensures that the climate is pleasant and that the mosquitoes stay away. At the end of the day, a well-deserved fresh cocktail can be enjoyed at the poolside bar.

Built in traditional Zanzibari style, with a huge thatched Makuti (palm-thatch) roof and coral walls. The gardens are lush, full of tall palm trees and vibrant bougainvillea.
There are 87 bungalows divided into three categories: garden view, standard and seafront rooms. The garden view rooms are set attractively on the hillside overlooking the resort. The standard rooms overlooking the resort, in the direction of the sea and have slight views of the sea. The seafront rooms are all located at the front of the beachfront. The rooms are decorated in traditional East African style, are extremely comfortable and have verandas. Each room has en-suite facilities with hot water, a hairdryer, air-con, ceiling fan, telephone and safe deposit box. The beds all have mosquito nets.
The open-air dining room has wonderful views of the ocean. It is situated on an elevated platform. The interior is attractive with wooden chairs and tables were you could enjoy a combination of international and local cuisine. There's a Beach Bar, which serves drinks, and a Pool Bar for snacks and cakes during the day.

Situated on a beautiful beach, Pongwe Beach Hotel is a true paradise retreat, set within a secluded bay on the east coast. The resort is ideally hidden from the more populated resorts in the area, creating a pleasant sense of isolation.
Pongwe Beach Hotel is an intimate 10-chalet island retreat. The rooms at Pongwe are traditional beach cottages surrounded by pretty gardens - most overlooking the ocean. Each cottage has a traditional Zanzibarian bed, Terrazzo floors and hand crafted doors. The rooms can be divided into seven large double/twin rooms and three smaller twin rooms. The bathrooms are en-suite with Moroccan style walk-in showers (no baths). All the beds are fitted with mosquito nets and ceiling fans keep the rooms cool. Each room has its own private terrace with great views of the beach and gardens. The walls are lime-washed in the traditional fashion, while the roofs are thatched and made from woven palm leaves that help to keep the rooms nice and cool.
The hotel has a lounge and bar area as well as a restaurant, all housed under a great big thatch. The meals are beautifully prepared and delicious. The standard of the food is high and you can expect delicacies such as crab and king prawn combined with fine local dishes. Relax & enjoy the secluded bay side location with a candlelit dinner on the beach, or a few cocktails at the bar whilst taking in the amazing view.

Situated in Paje, Arabian Nights is one of the most luxurious guesthouses on the island.
Décor is a combination of western and Zanzibari. The rooms have been tiled with beautiful Italian tiles and the interiors are pleasing to the eye. There are a total of 10 rooms – 2 Suites, 4 seafront and 4 standard. The Suites are only 10 meters from the beach, more spacious then the other rooms and more private. The Seafront rooms are about 15 meters from the beach with the Standard room behind the Seafront rooms. All rooms have standing fans, air-conditioning, minibar, double beds, shower and satellite television. Added to this, the rooms have baths.
They have a lovely little restaurant, which serves a variety of well very prepared meals, ranging from traditional Zanzibar to western.

| Matemwe Beach Villages (Intermediate to Budget) |
Matemwe Beach is a small guesthouse, located on a long stretch of classic palm-lined, white sand beach on the North East coast of Zanzibar. There are 16 standard rooms, 5 'Shamba' suites and 1 honeymoon suite called Asali. All have white walls, palm thatch roofs and views towards the sea or the bush, except the Shamba suites that look into a courtyard.
The standard rooms are located in thatched bungalows – two rooms per unit. The front bungalows have immediate access to the beach. The inland bungalows lie among palms trees and offer a glimpse of the sea and a cool breeze though the night. All rooms have twin or double beds with mosquito nets, a clothes cupboard, a ceiling fan and an en suite bathroom with shower.
The Shamba Suites are designed so that small families can enjoy some space and privacy. Each suite is on two levels. The ground level consists of a beautiful double bedroom, a sitting area with a single bed and a barazza that can be made into another bed for a small child, a separate toilet and a huge shower. The second level is a deck under the makuti roof offering beach and/or bush views. The suites are designed so you can have a romantic dinner on the deck.
The Asali suite is a very stylish, circular, open-plan bungalow. The large semi-outdoor living space is centred on a circular Jacuzzi-pool, and has views past palms to the sea. Off it lie the open-plan kitchenette (with sink, fridge, cooker) and sitting area with inbuilt daybeds and mountainous blue-green cushions. Through the slatted wooden door is the bedroom, whose double bed continues the blue-green theme, and adjoining this is the en-suite bathroom, with shower and basin. A connecting door takes you to a small outside ‘pod’ containing the toilet and secondary shower. The suite is cover with a huge, pyramidal, palm-thatch roof. The suite is 5-minute walk from the other rooms.
In the Shamba and Asali suites you'll find kikoys, beach baskets, essential oil burners, books, tea and coffee facilities, bottled water and torches. Their open-plan design allows cooling breezes through, so there's no air-con.

The Zanzibar Retreat Hotel offers a great beach-ocean experience on the famous Northeast coast of Zanzibar. It is located on one of the beaches with the finest white sand, lapped by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, and cooled by the ever-present ocean breezes.
All rooms (6 rooms) have super-large Swahili beds with mosquito nets. They are equipped with Air Conditioning, Satellite TV, Ceiling fan, En-suite bathroom and In-room telephone service.
The hotel has two restaurants. One is located on the ground level patio immediately bordering the beach and facing the ocean.
